Overview

Three traditional Waterton Park camping grounds are available, as well as nine backcountry locations. For those seeking home comforts, some campgrounds provide utility hook-ups. A Waterton camping experience is a popular activity; campgrounds are very busy during July and August. Travelers are encouraged to make reservations where available. In the event your desired campground is full, several campgrounds/RV sites operate around Waterton Park, providing wonderful service and scenery.

General Waterton National Park Camping Rules

  • Permits required for backcountry campgrounds.
  • Fires: Only permitted in camp kitchens in Waterton Townsite Campground. Other campgrounds may feature designated campfire grills. Always check regulations. Fire permits MUST be purchased, at individual campgrounds.
  • Waterton campgrounds provide a Campground Host Program, to welcome you and provide information.
  • Abide by Waterton Park’s “Bare Campground Program.”
  • Pets: Must be leashed at all times.
  • Checkout: Times vary between 11 am - Noon.
  • Annual camping fees also available, with prices from $15.70 - $38.20 (Canadian).

Waterton Townsite CG: Nearby activities include shopping, dining, trails, and Upper Waterton Lake access.

  • Location: South end of Waterton Townsite
  • Sites: 238
  • Amenities: Utility hook-ups (95 sites), showers, flush toilets, food storage, kitchen shelters. No fire pits. Excellent spot for RVs.
  • Season: May 1st  – mid October
  • Fees (Canadian): $22.50 to $38.20
  • Reservations: Available. Call 1-877-737-3783

Crandell CG: Nearby features include Crandell Lake, Blakistan Creek, and trails.

  • Location: Just south of Red Rock Parkway’s approximate midpoint.
  • Sites: 129 (un-serviced)
  • Amenities: Flush toilets, water, kitchen shelter, fire pits. Camping units shorter than 30 ft recommended.
  • Season: Mid-May – Labour Day
  • Fees (Canadian): $21.50
  • Reservations: None. First come, first serve.

Belly River CG: Primitive camping for the more self-reliant visitor, experience dramatic wilderness near Belly River.

  • Location: 26 kms (16 miles) from Waterton Townsite, off Chief Mountain Highway.
  • Sites: 24 (un-serviced)
  • Amenities: Flush/dry toilets, food storage, picnic shelter, fire ring/wood. No potable water – bring your own. Campground Host Program operates here.
  • Season: Mid-May – mid-September
  • Fees (Canadian): $15.70
  • Reservations: None. First come, first serve.

  • Enjoy Alberta’s fine scenery in one of Waterton Park’s traditional or backcountry campgrounds, or in a nearby private campground.
  • Choose between a fully serviced site, featuring utility hook-ups and nearby amenities, or opt for a secluded experience in a primitive site.
