Winter Recreation
The Glacier region in northern Montana turns into a winter wonderland once the snow starts to stick to the ground in late fall. This white blanket closes all summer hiking trails and encourages many critters to seek warmth, but it lures and welcomes many enthusiasts from snow and skiing communities.
Ski vacations to this part of the country are a fantastic way to appreciate the surrounding mountains and valleys. In the winter visitors enjoy skiing and snowboarding at Whitefish Mountain Resort as well as in the never ending backcountry. Others enjoy ice fishing, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, snowmobiling, and going on sleigh or dog sled rides.
Just outside of Glacier National Park in Whitefish is Whitefish Mountain Resort. Average snowfall at the resort is 300 inches providing amazing powder and a great base for a long skiing season. Almost half of the terrain is dedicated to intermediate trails and the resort has a vertical drop of 2500 feet. Winter temperatures tend to be more mild than expected, as the resort sits on the western side of the Rockies and is therefore in a milder, climate-protected region.
Plan a vacation to Whitefish Mountain Resort and experience fantastic skiing and views of towering peaks of Glacier National Park. Enjoy the Glacier region in both summers and winters.
