Summer

Hiking
If you love alpine scenery, you’ll love hiking to Ten Lakes. This 12-mile trek takes you into the northern Whitefish Range. Of course, in Glacier National Park you’ll have 800 miles of trails to choose from, and more in the surrounding State Forest lands.

Fishing
Whitefish Lake invites the fisherman to try his luck for some good-sized trout. This pristine mountain lake is 7 miles long and about ½ mile wide and is a great spot for fly-fishing.

Boating
During the summer, Whitefish Lake is a very popular place for boating, and you’ll enjoy the views of the surrounding mountains and pristine forests.

Paddling and Canoeing
The Whitefish River flows past some tree-lined banks and lovely meadows and is a Class I river, perfect for beginners. It’s the ideal paddling river as there is no danger of a dunking.

Camping
To make your getaway complete, you simply must try camping out under the stars in Montana. There are a number of campgrounds that you can pick from around Whitefish, from primitive camping to campgrounds with RV sites and RV parks.

Golfing
Whitefish is popular place to come for many golf enthusiasts. With 11 championship golf courses in the Whitefish and Flathead Valley area, you will find that there is a reason Golf Digest named this one of the “50 Greatest Golf Destinations in the World.”

Winter

Skiing
Only a little over 7 miles away is the Big Mountain Ski Resort and only 40 minutes away is the Black Tail Ski Area. Skiing here is wonderful in the perfect powder that covers this region.

Snowboarding
The surrounding mountains area is a snowboarding paradise and Big Mountain lures snowboarders from all over the country. There are 3,000 acres of great terrain at the Big Mountain Ski Resort.

Snowmobiling
Find plenty of groomed trails in the Whitefish Range and ungroomed trails as well. The forest service roads make for some incredible snowmobiling for those who like to get out and tour the white landscapes.

Snowshoeing and Cross-Country Skiing
Big Mountain’s Nordic trails have well-marked routes for snowshoeing and cross-country skiing. Groomed trails in the Whitefish Range also invite some trips into the snow-covered forests. Round Meadows is about thirteen miles from the town, and here you will find trails that lead you through evergreen forests and beautiful meadows.
