Whitefish, Montana is a wonderful destination for recreation, adventure, and relaxation. Located at the northwest corner of Flathead Lake, Whitefish is quaint and remote. It sits right next to Whitefish Lake and directly below Big Mountain Ski Area. The welcoming town has a fantastic selection of accommodations, high class restaurants and a great live music scene.

Whitefish, MT is a great place to visit any time of year. It's hard to find free time with so many year-round recreation opportunities like downhill skiing, cross-country skiing, snowboarding, snow shoeing, skating, tubing, and snowmobiling in the winter and golfing, hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, camping, boating, and fishing in the summer. Big Mountain Ski & Summer Resort is open for the winter and summer seasons. Its 11 lifts and 2500 feet of vertical drop lure many skiers, mountain bikers, hikers, and wildlife and wildflower enthusiasts. The resort's summit is a great place for viewing the high peaks and glaciers of Glacier National Park.

Only 26 miles away from Whitefish sits the ever so magical and mysterious Glacier National Park. The park is home to 1,500 square miles of wilderness, abundant wildlife, over 60 species of critters like deer, elk, moose, bear, bighorn sheep, mountain goats, and 200 species of birds. Over 700 miles of trail lead hikers to high mountain peaks, stunning turquoise lakes, and profound valley floors. Depending on how long you are visiting Glacier, enjoy activities in the park like hiking, camping, fishing, biking, climbing, horseback riding, boating, and even driving the scenic and famous Going-to-the-Sun Road.

Many areas in and around Whitefish, MT are worth visiting during your vacation. Flathead Lake, the largest natural freshwater lake in the west, sits between two mountain ranges and is water sport central in the summertime. The pristine Whitefish Lake, less than one mile from downtown, lures many fly fishermen seeking sly lake trout. Enjoy a remote and scenic hike in the Swan Mountains or along the Whitefish Range, a great place to also enjoy cross-country skiing or snowmobiling in the winter. Flathead Natonal Forest provides a huge section of beautiful wilderness where the three main forks of Flathead Wild and Scenic River begins. In June enjoy the Early Bird XC Mountain Bike Race or the Bike Academy Family Day. Events in July include Climb Big Mountain, the Big Mountain Summer Festival and the Star Gazer Event. Don't miss Montana's Shakespeare in the Parks, the Big Mountain Brewfest, or the Glacier Nordic Run in August. In September the Huckleberry Hillclimb is an event worth checking out. You'll have trouble fitting everything into your schedule in Whitefish.
