Horse Pack Trips

Experiencing Glacier National Park on horseback is a great way to view and enjoy the natural beauty of northern Montana. Horseback riding is allowed on most trails in the park, or through the park's official horseback outfitter. Check in with a ranger at a Visitor Center for trails that are temporarily or permanently closed to horses and stock.

If you are planning multi-day trip on horseback, you need to acquire a backcountry permit. Make sure to find out which campsites allow horses. The park recommends planning horseback riding vacations or pack trips outside of their busiest summer months, which run between July and mid-August. There are a few operations that guide horse pack trips in and around Glacier National Park as well.
