Riding through Glacier National Park in northern Montana has been said to be a motorcyclist's paradise. Its high alpine scenery, sheer granite walls, cascading waterfalls, and glacial valleys make this park one of the most breathtaking and enjoyable places in the world. The park is open year round but many areas are closed off in the winter because of snow. Going to the Sun road does not open until mid June. Late June and July is a great time to see the wildflowers that have bloomed after snowmelt. July and August seem to be the busiest time of the year in the park. September is a great time to visit because most of the crowds are gone, the weather is pleasant, leaves are changing color, and wildlife viewing is at its peak. more info

Planning a motorcycle vacation through Glacier National Park is rewarding and fun. With a little research you can find many motorcycle guiding businesses that lead tours through Glacier National Park. Some motorcycle companies invite you to fly into a nearby airport where they will pick you up, give you your newly purchased bike, so that you can explore the area before biking home. Or you can rent your own motorcycle and follow one of the many self guided trips through the park.

Whether you are driving through the park in one day or spending a week in the area the Going to the Sun road is a must. Here is a great itinerary for the one day venture along Going to the Sun road. After watching the sun rise over McDonald Lake, stop at Moose Turnout to see if you can spot moose grazing in the early morning. Stop by the Sacred Dancing Cascades for a great photo op and head up to Avalanche Creek where you can hike the short but incredible Trail of Cedars. The turnouts along the way to Logan Pass all offer amazing views and are worth pulling out. From the Loop you can see majestic Heaven's Peak dominating the horizon. Check out a waterfall tumbling down from a hanging valley at the Bird Woman Falls overlook. As you ride by Weeping Wall in June or July prepare to get a little wet as the water pours out onto the road from the rock. Once you get all the way up to Logan Pass, the Hidden Lake Trail is a must, winding just a few miles to a magnificent overlook. The road tends to be busiest mid-day but traveling along its fifty miles of scenic byway in the mornings and evenings provides magical light and offers better luck for wildlife viewing.

No matter how long you and your motorcycle are spending in Glacier National Park you will be blown away by the areas serenity and natural beauty.
