Eureka, Montana is a town located in Lincoln County. Home to Lincoln County High School and the Lincoln County Fair each August, this town used to be known as "The Christmas Tree Capitol of the World."
Eureka is located on the Tobacco River in a region referred to as the Tobacco Valley and the Tobacco Plains. It was settled in the early 1900s as a new influx of people traveled north from Kalispell and Missoula, and south from Canada. The town was originally called Deweyville. In the early 1800s a Canadian fur-trapper named David Thompson visited the Tobacco Valley while searching for a passageway to the Pacific Ocean.
The town covers a total area of 1 sq. mi, none of which is covered by water. It has a population of 1,017 people, contains 431 households, and 252 families in residence. The population density is 1,008.6/mi². Eureka has 494 housing units at an average density of 489.9/mi².
