East Glacier, Montana is easy to reach by train because Amtrak's depot is located right in the middle of town. You can also get here by plane via the Glacier International Airport in Kalispell, which is only 79 miles away. Great Falls International Airport is about 132 miles away.
The people are friendly in East Glacier, Montana and the location is very beautiful as well. The town is located on the Blackfeet Indian Reservation, which covers 1.5 million acres from the Rocky Mountains to the Great Plains. The reservation is home to the Amskapi Pikuni Band of the Blackfeet nation. During the second week of July you can experience their amazing culture and traditions during the annual North American Indian Days held in Browning each year.
East Glacier has the largest variety of facilities in the area, perfect for tourists. The many attractions include the Glacier Park Lodge, for example. The Lodge has a swimming pool and a difficult nine-hole golf course accessible to the general public. Comfortable accommodations are available, such as hotels, a youth hostel, RV parks and campgrounds, a cafeteria, snack bars, delis, and fine restaurants.
Glacier National Park is located nearby, often referred to as the "Switzerland of North America." In fact, you feel as if you're in the Swiss Alps because of the Swiss style lodges and chalets found in the park. More than a thousand miles of hiking trails afford you magnificent views of glaciers, colorful wildflowers, snowy peaks, and pure mountain streams. A variety of animals live in the park, including bighorn sheep, mountain goats, ptarmigan, and black and grizzly bears.
The park is perfect for photographers and fishermen, especially Two Medicine Valley. This segment of Glacier National Park takes at least a day to explore, and is located a few minutes from East Glacier. There are beginner and intermediate hiking trails winding around Middle Two Medicine Lake and Upper Two Medicine Lake, where you can view many jaw dropping waterfalls between the lakes on Two Medicine River.
