The mild climate of Kalispell, Montana makes it a desirable place to visit any time of year. Whether its spring, summer, fall, or winter, temperatures seem to be just right. The great outdoors in and around Kalispell are endless. Glacier National Park is just 31 miles north of the city and can take days to weeks to really see it all. 17 miles north is Big Mountain Ski Resort in Whitefish, a hot spot in northern Montana's winters. Flathead Lake sits nine miles to the south and is the largest natural fresh water lake west of the Mississippi. The lake welcomes motor and sail boats, canoes, kayaks, swimmers and fishing enthusiasts. Hiking, biking, and horseback riding trails in the area are endless as well. Kalispell is home to Woodland City Park, a great place to spend the day and view swans, ducks, and geese. It has two miles of walking trails, a community pool, and a large picnic area.
A series of events and activities fill Kalispell's community calendar. Mountain bike races, triathlons, various kids events and naturalist camps, pow wow's, and art festivals occur numerous times throughout the summer months. Big Mountain re-opens in June, providing access to hiking and biking trails. The Strawberry Festival, Big Mountain Summer Art Festival, and the Mountain Madness Air Show fill the weekends of July. August brings Huckleberry days, Shakespeare in the Parks, and the Big Mountain Brewfest.
Kalispell, Montana is the largest town in northwest Montana and is easily accessible by plane, train, or automobile. The city is located at the intersection of highways 2 and 93, which follows the eastern shore of Flathead Lake, eventually reaching Missoula. Interstate 90 is 100 miles south of town. The closest airport is Glacier International. Rental cars are available at the airport or in town. There are many scenic roads to enjoy in the area, like Going-to-the-Sun Road in Glacier. Traveling to Kalispell, MT by train is another option. Amtrak makes stops in Whitefish and West Glacier. There are many accommodations and restaurants in town as well.
