If it's been awhile since you and your family went for a walk or had a picnic together, why not plan the surprise by visiting one of Lethbridge's superb parks, and enjoy the peace and tranquility of nature.

Nikka Yuko Japanese Gardens
Built in 1967 as a centennial project, this authentic Japanese garden is a symbol of the Japanese-Canadian friendship that exists in the community. The garden is a place of contemplation and peace, where five traditional garden styles are joined by a meandering path. Japanese cultural events, gardening and pruning activities, varied art exhibits, and cultural vignettes make this an attraction to be visited over and over again.

If walking is your passion, there are many pathways and trails available for you to explore here.

A Walk in Wilderness Encounter
Alexander Wilderness Park, a 42 hectare (104 acre) floodplain, is a tranquil nature reserve, sheltered on one side by coulee cliffs and bordered on three sides by the Oldman River. The park is accessible only by a 2.5 kilometer walking trail leading through the coulees form the lower parking lot. As you descend the trail you'll see stands of cottonwoods and young saplings in the valley, thickets of saskatoons, chokecherries and buffaloberry bushes.

The park is an ideal refuge for many wildlife species, which find homes among the coulees, the brush and the water's edge. Alexander Park is an excellent place to watch feeding pelicans in spring and summer.
