Because of Polson's location, the community spends a majority of their free time on Flathead Lake or along the river. It was the first town along the lake, settled in the 1840s. Activities are endless in this resort town. Visitors enjoy hiking, fishing, boating, swimming, and attending many of the towns scheduled events.

Polson, MT seems to be the leader in events in the area throughout the summer. Golf, Native American festivals and other activities seem to fill the calendar frequently. The PGA Kickoff Tournament, as well as the Cherry Blossom Festival, start off the summer in the middle of May. Mid-June brings the Annual Main Street Fesitval and the Arlee Pow-Wow. Live History Days and the Mission Mountain PRCA Rodeo are scheduled in late July. August brings Crusin' By the Bay Car Show, Art in the Park, and the Soroptimist Wine Festival. Summer events end with another golf event known as the Pine Cone Classic. Concerts and music festivals are also common throughout the summer.

Polson is just 7 miles from a frequently visited KERR Dam. The Dam created many jobs within Flathead Valley during its construction between 1930 and 1938, and has been the base of its economy ever since. The dam is 204 feet tall by 100 feet wide at the bottom and 450 feet wide up top. The history of the dam is fascinating and the view of the cascading white water is overwhelming.

Another great place to visit during your vacation in Polson is the National Bison Range. As one of the oldest Wildlife Refuges in the nation, it covers many different habitats for critters like elk, deer, antelope, coyote, black bear, and around 500 bison. The landscape rolls over wetlands, streams, forested areas, and Native Palouse prairie. Many different species of birds can be spotted in the refuge. Sightings of hawks, eagles, meadowlarks, ducks, geese, and bluebirds are common. Stop by the visitor center for information on the National Bison Range and for suggestions on trails and driving.
