The annual Whitewater Festival in Bigfork Montana marks the official beginning of the summer season. For the past thirty (30) years, at the end of May, paddlers from all other have found their way to this small Montana town to try their skills on the Wild Mile section of the Swan River.

The river always provides plenty of thrills and challenges and competition is stiff for the various races – the Downriver, the Overall Festival, the Overall Rodeo, the Overall Slalom and the Lower Slalom Overall.

Starting out as a small town local event, the Whitewater Festival has grown to be known internationally. You can run the wild water in a canoe or a kayak. But be sure to wear your safety helmet and life vest as the water is definitely "white" and wild.

Even if you don't paddle, come to the festival and have fun. There is usually a fund raiser prior to the actual event, the proceeds from which go to the preservation of this beautiful, wild river and to make sure that the river and the lands surrounding it remain accessible to the general public.

This Year's Event: May 24th-26th, 2008.  Phone: 406-837-5888
