Thompson Chain of Lakes
The Thompson Chain-of-Lakes are located along Montana State Highway 2 from 35 miles west of Kalispell to 50 miles west of Kalispell. There are numerous lake sites within this 20 mile length of lakes. There are 56 primitive campsites located throughout the chain. Maps are available on site. The roads are primitive and not recommended for passenger cars or motor homes. Thompson Chain-of-Lakes Fishing Access Area is located on the Middle Thompson Lake and is one of two Fish, Wildlife and Parks managed sites on that Lake.
There is also a boat launch, toilets and some access for camp trailers. The camping limit is 14 days. The Thompson Chain-of-lakes is surrounded by a douglas fir and ponderosa pine forest. Visitors to this area can enjoy swimming, boating, camping, water skiing and fishing for rainbow trout, largemouth bass, kokanee salmon, and yellow perch.
The Thompson Chain of Lakes in the Flathead Valley is an ideal area to enjoy ice fishing in the winter. Winter fishing/ice fishing is ideal for youngsters for two very good reasons: its simplicity, and its effectiveness for catching fish. Ice-fishing can be a lot of fun even if you're not a kid. And it's very popular in western Montana, according to Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks officials.
