Often called the "The Smithsonian of The West", the Miracle of America Museum in Polson, Montana, depicts America's progress from the walking-plow to walking on the moon. At the museum, visitors can choose from various areas of interest. With an estimated 160,000 topically displayed items from eras spanning the late-19th to mid-20th centuries, an antique lover's dream come true would be getting lost in the museum's halls.
The many displays include everything from a tiny arrowhead to the 65 feet. Paul Bunyan, a logging tow boat listed in the National Register. You can browse through the museum and see displays of Indian items, cars, cycles, toys, dolls, guns, homesteaders, clothing, wagons, buggies, sleighs, snowmobiles, military, tools, and tractors. All of these cannot be contained in one building and so they spill out of the main building into the courtyard. In the courtyard you'll find an authentic pioneer village, which includes an original sod roofed log cabin, general store, school, fire house, and shops for a blacksmith, barber, tailor, carpenter and saddle maker. The Montana State Fiddlers Hall of Fame, logging memorabilia, and wooden boats are housed in other buildings at the same location.
The Miracle of America Museum is just 60 miles north of Missoula on Highway 93. the Museum promises many hours of fun, and exploration for people of all ages. The museum is an easy stop for individuals or families visiting the scenic Mission Mountains and Flathead Lake. You should allow yourself ample time in order to see everything. A nominal admission fee is charged.
